I’m so glad you didn’t buy that bio twill skirt I hate it with a passion. I fell in love with that color. It truly is the most stunning green ever. But the skirt is cut so so so short there’s no way to wear it without pinning it to the side. It’s literally crotch on display for me. And then when you always wear it buttoned up, it takes away the versatility. Haaaate that they cut it this way I truly don’t get why.

The extended edition is that I also read in the Tibi Fans Facebook group this tidbit about the unbuttoned option being WAY too short, and that was the final straw of dissuasion for me. It's good to be reminded that (even with Tibi!) some things on final sale are still available on final sale for a reason.

Definitely! I have very strong opinions about Tibi no buys. As much as I love the brand, I’m not in the camp that believes all they do is amazing (just most of it is 😂). Maybe I’ll actually start writing that ‘why we don’t buy’ series. I just feel bad talking shit about something someone else might love.

Oh, I TOTALLY get that. It feels like you're just being such a hater, right? But if all fashion content is self-edited to be relentlessly positive toward brands and the things we buy, then that also creates a different problem. As a reader, it starts to seem like the solution to any dilemma is just to keep buying more of this endlessly hyped stuff!

There has to be a way to walk the line: to say, “This might be a great pick for someone else, but it’s not for everyone.” I hope that kind of honesty doesn’t have to be seen as mean, just useful.

You are right. Even when I recommend stuff I try to point out why someone else might not like it. That’s the reality of it, people like different things. So I shouldn’t hesitate to do it the other way around.

I swear I have no affiliation to this person or her brand, I genuinely just think it’s cool how she upcycles and, at the same time, I know my style well enough to acknowledge that I myself should not buy one of her reworked shirts, but… please check out Melissa Munro on YouTube or her website https://www.melissamunrodesign.com/ because her shirts might be right up your alley!

I think they’re really cool and versatile. Stumping for her little brand until I see someone on Substack wearing it 😎

Devon, I love reading about what you didn't buy as much as what you did. I'm going to give rare encouragement to buy firsthand for the Tory Burch sandals (I'm impatiently waiting for some kind person to resell their pierced mules on TRR). These are spectacular and they'll be a statement shoe for years to come.

I have to agree here! I have the pierced kitten heel sling backs and they are one of my favourite purchases ever. Such a cool vibe and I think/hope will have good longevity!

Oooh, tell me more - are they comfortable for city walking?

Erin's avatar

Hmm. I honestly haven’t tested them in that way (I’m in a relatively small city so easy drive to work etc!) I’ve worn them for full work days plus evening events. They were stiff to begin with but they’re getting more comfortable with every wear. These are them - the colour is amazing and just magically goes with everything 😍 https://www.toryburch.com/en-us/shoes/heels/pierced-slingback-heel/155201.html?color=250

Oooh, super helpful tysm! That color is perfect and I equally love the slingback silho. This sounds like me trying to break in my Ganni Buckle Ballerinas, except less painful.

Glad it’s helpful! I’m also not a big heel gal so it always takes me and my wonky ankle time to get used to them 😂

These are my favourite posts - especially since I tried to create a list and came up with nothing. Literally don't need anything. Maybe I'll do a list of what to NOT buy instead. Anyway - Loveee the Britney tee and think the mango bag would be great for date nights and the occasional function/wedding.
